Crowdfunding - a digital solution for the modern workplace

Crowdfunding has helped many businesses fund and launch new services. This talk will cover what crowdfunding is, how it works and what platforms are available, as well as why it’s a good way to fund and develop specific products and projects.

Can you explain what you do in a single sentence?
We help people and businesses run successful crowdfunding campaigns.

How important, out of 10, is digital technology to your business?

What do you think is the most important digital innovation from the last 20 years?
Crowdfunding! To be able to get money for your business/product from thousands of people across the globe so easily and fast is an incredible development.

What digital tool, innovation, or technique, is most vital to your business?
Crowdfunding platforms and Trello!

How has digital technology affected your career, your business and your sector?
Even 5 years ago in the UK I do not think my business would have existed, maybe not even 3 years ago! But definitely not 10 years ago! Therefore I have one of those jobs that did not use to exist, and would not have existed if it weren’t for the rise of crowdfunding platforms and also tech companies and businesses with innovative products.

What do you think will be the next ‘big thing’ in digital?
Artificial Intelligence (AI)

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing businesses in terms of digital?
Lack of skills and a lack of interest in learning, especially from older generations. It’s also vital to invest in cybersecurity, data protection and understanding legislation in order to keep online assets safe.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learnt so far in your career?
Try everything and keep learning. There are always new online tactics in crowdfunding and after every campaign we learn something new to try again in the next campaign. There are always new things to discover and updating your skills is so important to stay employable and at the forefront of the industry.

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs starting out on their business journey?
Prioritise and plan. Some things are more fun than others. But those other things might be more important. Putting things off is fine on the odd occasion but don’t make a habit of it.

What mottos or philosophies do you use in your working life?
“If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!” – Sir Richard Branson
“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” – Princess Diana
I strongly believe in collaboration and helping each other to become better and more successful.

What business figures do you most admire?
Richard Branson, as several of my clients have benefited from his Virgin start-up loan and advice and he has also backed and promoted some of our campaigns.
